Before you break your neck — or heart — trying to get a girl’s attention, consider a few stop-and-go signals from a former teen girl.

During my junior year of high school, I sat next to a cute guy in English class. He flirted with me a few times, so I figured he liked me. Soon I was hooked. I tried to win him over by talking about things he was into and writing him clever little notes in class. I even persuaded my girlfriend to approach him on the PE field and tell him I liked him. Big mistake! She returned with the heartbreaking news that I had confused his signals. He had his eye on someone else!

How to impress a girl

So you’re attracted to a girl and know her enough to know she’s a good catch? Here are some tips on saying or showing you like her.

Do a good deed. If it’s cold, offer your jacket. If it’s raining, share an umbrella. If she refuses your offer, it may mean she’s not interested.

Check out common ground. If you both like drama or music, talk about those things. Loan her a CD or invite her to a concert or play.

My name is Sarah. I'm a much published professional artist, and have been creating comissioned portraits for over five years. I also have been doing custom works by design as dictated by demand. My works have won some praise and awards, including the Gold Keys Award.

I was born in Dallas, but now, at 23, reside in Omaha, Nebraska. I attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha, where I'm a student of Art, and in the process of earning my batchlors degree in Business.
